The birthday party!

We wanted to spoil Kaya this year before the arrival of her sibling, who according to Adam Sandler is "going to eventually shoot out of my ee-ah and steal all her toys", so we decided to throw a bit of a bash in her birthday honour. We sent out the invites, baked a 2-tier cake and prepared a buffet of food, all to entice guests (those who weren't away...it is after all summer in Europe and people tend to disappear for weeks at a time) to stop by and help us make her feel extra special, well it certainly worked! She was absolutely spoiled rotten with attention, creative toys and princess paraphernalia - THANK YOU! And erhmmm we will talk about the slightly slutty plastic heels in another post...all of which will just end up as pay back once this certain special guest has little rug rats of his own!

Happy 3rd Birthday Kaya!

I could rant and rave about the 12 hours of labour, the enema and the breastfeeding of the wrong baby that I endured on this very day 3 years ago, but I'll spare you all that babble, or mostly since I just did bring it up and just say happy birthday to my favourite and my best little daughter. Funny how, and yes I hate to admit it, but I feel a little teary eyed, that Kaya is 3 today, it's somehow incredible that we have managed to turn a little sleepy lump of a thing into a little girl. I think Stefan has an epiphany this morning and said "wow, we've been a family or 3 years"... at least he knows how old she is! So prost to Kaya you're an absolutely charming and wonderful daughter, we even love your princess tantrums (?), science experiments with the toilet brush (yuck even remembering the incident makes me yuck), and your absolute conviction that two is actually four. Lots of love Mom and Dad xoxo

I did it yesterday...

So we have this routine before bed, which I don't think is pushing the limits, just the standard showering, teeth brushing, peeing, story telling and loads of hugs and kisses. Well Kaya is always trying to alter/disrupt the flow of things - toddler power struggle, right?

Last night, we we asked her to go pee before hopping into bed and she said "I already peed yesterday mommy." Yep, that's right, at 8pm last night I was trying to explain the fundamentals of time and bladder function to a 3 year old, which went a little something like:
"Yesterday was yesterday and today is today and you need to empty the hollow, muscular, and distensible (or elastic) organ that sits on the pelvic floor just near your uterus." And I of course added the obligatory parental advisory of "and you have to do it or you'll get sick!"

I think I need to start enriching my toddler vocab, I should have said something like:
"just do it" or "pee or no bedtime story", but you know I can't seem to supress the teacher in me. And there is no time like the present to learn a bit of human anatomy, you can't just stop at head, shoulders, knees and toes, eyes, ears, mouth and nose...I'm sure we can fit bladder into some verse of the song.
